Origin: Most likely East and South Africa and/or Central and Southeast Asia
Example: Lauren loaded a huge bowl and took a hit from the bong and then knocked it over spilling the water all over the carpet making the place reek for a month.
There are 2 main theories:
- The first theory is that the bong was invented in Central and Southeast Asia: China, Laos, Thailand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. That’s plausible, isn’t it? After all, cannabis has a long and rich history in Central and Southeast Asia. China has some of the oldest records of cannabis and has been used throughout its history. The word is derived from the Thai word baung which means cylindrical tube or pipe made from bamboo. Getting its name from the Hindu Kush Mountain Range in South Central Asia, the Kush plant’s origins are in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India offering some of the stoniest Cannabis Indica strains and genetics.
- The second theory has evidence that supports the bong was invented in East and South Africa. The people of East and South Africa were making smoking paraphernalia long before tobacco arrived in Africa. In 1945, Mary Leakey found a water pipe in Tanzania and what is now modern day Kenya, where the Bong’om Tribe lives. The Bong’om Tribe’s language is also called Bong’om. In Liberia on the west coast of Africa, you can find Bong County which was named after Mount Bong.
